Letter from Maria Alyokhina from prison

20 Aug, 2012 (Maria Alyokhina)

Letter from Maria Alyokhina from prison Free Pussy Riot FreePussyRiot PussyRiot

Right after the reading of the verdict, we were taken to the cells, accompanied by guards with dogs. After a few minutes my guard asked for an excerpt from the verdict. A few minutes after that, a special forces cop burst into my cell and started swearing at me, telling me to get my things together. Evidently I wasn't fast enough, and he started twisting my arms. This was very strange, because in the past we were generally treated less roughly. So there must have been special instructions. The rest of the procedure went like this: we were loaded onboard a bus full of these special forces types and then, accompanied by numerous police vehicles, including two other buses full of armed police, were driven halfway across Moscow in a "corridor" specially cleared through the dense traffic. What is the meaning of all this? Even terrorists and heavy criminals aren't given this kind of special convoy treatment. Doing so for three girls is a clear sign of FEAR. The depth of this fear came as a surprise. It would be nice to think that it will all end happily, but these events would seem to indicate otherwise.

All this for 3 girls?
I remember that I would build barricades in prison, using everything there as a weapon, while training in my cell, and calling for a revolt by all inmates. It worked. And converting prison guards to understand and help out a rebellion from prison, some would support me. And I am some what larger than average, more intelligent than average. I than was moved to another special guarded prison by just one guard in a bus normal on the road and never saw any dog there.
Has Putin ever considered psychiatric support for his strange fantasies?
I am very worried here.

Sending Solidarity From Ireland
I have been following this trial with great interest, and what is happening to these three brave and courageous Women from the band 'Pussy Riot' is an absolute travesty and a human rights abuse. Thy should be released immediately and all charges dropped. Having read all three Women's closing statements, I have to say, I found their eloquence both moving and inspiring. We need more people in the world like these three Women. They will go down in history as revolutionaries and their actions and their words humble me to the core.

Support From Western Canada
These three women are demonstrating a very brave and important form of activism - which needs to be very widely and visibly supported by people all over the world. This kind of activism is what changes the minds of those running brutal and repressive regimes. What needs to be commented on by such activism certainly includes what happens here in North America - even though the forms of repression are more subtle and yet pervasive...

Fear, Despair and Memory
The fear of fear (fear is a sort of pain) , expressed in the letter comes from the right intuition that the real expierenced fear comes up, every time it is rememberd, with the same intensity. A small part of fear is due to the unkonwn of the future occurence of the feard actions and ist consequences, while despair is(=) facing unavoidable pain.
Unfortunmately western psychlogical tinking, especially so far at it is incoporated in polirtical thinking, is doing always the third and fourth steps, without any clear defintions.

I oriental tradition, because of the hard suppression of despotism there, there are a lot techniques concerning pain (which fear is a sort of), namely faqirism. One of the main features is to maintain logical thinking and expression of it, especially on a social strategic level. Fortunately the letter demonstrates a good condition from this point of view of the imprisoned.

The general mathematical rule, that a minus is to be countered by a plus is applicable to the imagination associated to feelings too (details are left to the reader).

Foucault has wirtten a lot about "controlling and punishing", and scenes like the one described in the letter occurer there too.

Power and restistance, put in the techniques of "discplin and control", which is the regime of an early industrializing stage.
