Pussy Riot in freedom: «Most likely, everything about us is well-known.»

Pussy Riot FreePussyRiot EngPussRiot Free Pussy Riot Interview women remaining free Pussy Riot in freedom Most likely, everything about us is well-known. FreePussyRiot EngPussyRiot

The prosecutors have declared the federal investigation of the two remaining members of the feminist group “Pussy Riot”, who were in the Christ Savior Cathedral during the punk prayer. The young women remaining free gave a postal interview.

What was your first thought, as Tolokonnikova, Alekhina and Samutsevich were arrested? To move abroad, to submerge, to quit with the protest activities?

  • The opposite: To rise from this mud. It moved many, not only us, to further fighting for democracy and a progressive society.

How did you live half of this year, knowing that three members of your group were behind bars and each moment the authorities might come to get you?

  • We live and understand that each moment something might happen, that there won’t be a procedure before court, that we will be identified by/ throught ??? and put to prison (Maria Alekhina was identified by/through ??? – editorial remark). The feeling itself, that we are free but they are confined is a horrible one. But be were only saved by the fact that were not near them when they captured the girls.

Did you ever wish to capitulate deliberatively to be together in court – as we sang together, so we will answer together?

  • We want to keep on singing and continue our protest in much better terms then surrender to a state which we do not believe in.

Are you morally prepared to be captured for the actual prison term?

  • We do not believe in this state, nor in any kind of punishment. We perceive the actual prison term simply as violence and the causation of suffering for the people for net letting them undermining the authority.

Did you succeed to stay in contact with the girls for the whole time, to write with them?

  • We have seen each other from time to time, stealthily at the court. We understand, what the girls want, this is why we are Pussy Riot. In their words, views and moods one can feel the active appeal to do something.

Did you visit the trials? What do you remember most?

  • Figures as the vice dean, the candle bearer and the altar disciple – we cannot fancy how can this be in a modern world. Even Dostoyevsky has no such words in his novels. And, of course, the ignorance of the prosecution organs and of the believers.

Were you at the court’s site at the day of the conviction?

  • Yes.

Tolokonnikova asserted before court that the action in the Christ Savior Cathedral was an ethical mistake. Are you of the same opinion?

  • No quite. We simply did not want to insult orthodox people, we have pointed at a problem. We never had in mind to insult people. Any people.

How did you perceive the official reaction of the Russian Orthodox Church to the conviction?

  • “The villains, who have awaited the conviction and then have begged for mercy” – all this is mockery and cynicism, apart from ignorance.

The prosecutors have a hard drive with all the information about the group, how did they attain it?

  • This is information from the computer of someone, who was arrested in relation to this case (it is most probable that the search and seizure at Peter Versilov, Nadeshda Tolokonnikova’s husband, in March 2012 is meant – editorial remark).

Which information was at the hard drive? Is there something, that the prosecution organs did not know up to now?

  • We are not quite sure, as we do not know which information about us is available to the organs. It is most probable that they know everything about us.

If they know practically everything about you, why, do you think, did they still not arrest you?

  • We are active young women. The state will be looking poorly if fearing and putting to prison those like us. If they captured five people then the resistance in the society would be at least twice as large.

How did you react to the prosecutors’ declaration of the tracing of the other band members? Are you planning to do anything?

  • No, we won’t flee but continue fighting.

The arrested young women have often said that you are not enemies to the sincere faith. How do you regard the support action of the group Femen, when they have sawn a cross in Kiev?

  • Well reacted, an excellent group. The action was not only anticlerical, but also antireligious, directed to not letting religion intervene in public life, for no excuse.

The action in the Christ Savior Cathedral was the most successful one of Pussy Riot. How do you evaluate the success? Was it worth it?

  • We all appreciate different actions differently, we like them all, it were excellent challenges. The action in the Christ Savior Cathedral has shown political and religious pluralism, something new occurred in the people’s lives, worries and new interests.

Until the action in the Christ Savior Cathedral you appeared on the roof of an autobus, in the subway, in shops, near a prison. Do you plan such public performances in future, or will it be necessary to change the tactics?

  • We plan exactly such ones and exactly illegal actions. This is the main style of the group.

How many active members do you have now? In particular, how many people took part in the recording of the new single?

  • About 10 people, however, letters with proposals to help are coming regularily.

What is the aim of your fight? The Suffragettes in England have ended their public actions when women were given the right to vote. What must happen to make you satisfied and to end your actions?

  • Progressive society and the absence of suffering in the people.

Pussy Riot have obtained a worldwide known name. Some people write, that the defense wants to register the trade mark and to make the name a brand. Did you already think about how to use the group’s fame?

  • We are not troubled by that. The advocates have made a brand of the group to protect Nadya, Katya and Masha. We are not informed about that.

Nice music
Over here in the West, the music by Pussy Riot sounds very good, to most people. I saw that the liked button at Youtube, is making the ranks to liked go up, because the music is really nice. And also are the clips. Many children like the music also. If the lawyers are negotiating the rights, maybe a CD would be a way to go. Pussy riot has their name made now.
